Following the postponement of Ranji Trophy 2021-22, veteran Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat expressed his desires of playing red-ball cricket again. The left-arm fast bowler took to Twitter on Tuesday (Tuesday) and wrote: “Dear red ball, please give me one more chance.. I’ll make you proud, promise!” With Unadkat being one of the prolific performers in India’s domestic circuit in recent years, the post went viral in no time.

Many fans also backed the pacer to relish his dream soon. However, the perspective of all netizens wasn’t the same. A social media user took a sly dig at Unadkat by asking: “At what pace would you bowl, bro?” However, the 30-year-old came up with an apt reply, asking the fan to check his numbers in First-Class cricket.

For the unversed, BCCI postponed the upcoming Ranji Trophy and several other domestic events due to COVID-19 concerns. The 2020-21 edition of the competition also couldn’t take place due to the same reason. Hence, it has been a while since Unadkat took the field in a First-Class game.

Unadkat, who has played one Test, 7 ODIs and 10 T20Is so far, leads Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy. In the 2019-20 season of Ranji Trophy, Unadkat finished as the highest wicket-taker with 67 dismissals under his belt. His heroics also took Saurashtra to the title.

Meanwhile, India has witnessed a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in the last week or so. Many players and officials have also been affected by the virus. In fact, as many as six members of the Bengal team tested positive along with a few Mumbai players. As a result, the BCCI were forced to indefinitely postpone India’s primary First-Class domestic tournament. Dark clouds are also looming over the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which gets underway in April.
