Jemimah Rodrigues set to represent Northern Superchargers in The Hundred

Jemimah Rodrigues

India middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues has had a promising start to her short international career so far, after making her debut against South Africa in the year 2018. The talented Mumbaikar was always earmarked as the future India player and her talent was spotted by England management when she was picked by Yorkshire Diamonds for the now-defunct Women’s Cricket Super League (WCSL) in 2019.

After that successful stint, Rodrigues is back again this time for Northern Superchargers in the inaugural edition of The Hundred. The tournament is set to kick off on July 21 and features eight women’s and men’s teams.

The 20-year-old joins Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma and Shafali Verma as the Indian players to participate in The Hundred.

Really looking forward to The Hundred: Jemimah Rodrigues

The 2019 WCSL was a good learning experience for the young Rodrigues, who also scored a 100 and got a chance to know about the England pitches. The right-hand batter is optimistic about doing well ahead of the 100-ball tournament.

I am really looking forward to it (The Hundred). Something new, something different,” Jemimah told the BBC’s ‘Stumped’ podcast.

I have played for the Yorkshire Diamonds and my team is the Northern Superchargers. So, I have played a few of them before, Lauren Winfield is our captain,” she added.

Rodrigues last played for India during the team’s limited-overs series against South Africa. The 20-year-old failed to get going in the ODIs as she scored 1, 9 and 0, before being dropped from the squad for the last two matches. She performed much better in the three-match T20 series getting scores of 30 and 16. The right-hand batter has been named in India’s all-format tour to England and she will look to repay the faith shown by the selectors.

The aggressive batter is also a sharp fielder and flexible with her batting positions. She has often been used in the opening slot and number three or four. Currently, she is quarantining with the India members who are set to depart to England on June 02. India will start their UK leg by playing a one-off Test against England, which is set to begin on June 16.
