Kedar Jadhav injures his shoulder, might miss remainder of the IPL

Indian batsman Kedar Jadhav’s participation for the remainder of the IPL is in doubt after he injured his shoulder. Jadhav sustained the injury while fielding for Chennai Super Kings during their final match of the group stage against Kings XI Punjab.

Jadhav is set to undergo X-Ray and scans to understand the extent of his injury and coach Stephen Fleming confirmed that the initial prognosis did not look good. The injury occurred during the 14th over when Jadhav was fielding on the boundary line and dived in order to prevent a four. Jadhav then walked off the field clutching his shoulder and did not return for the rest of KXIP’s chase.

Fleming speaking on Jadhav’s injury said:

“He’s getting an x-ray and a scan tomorrow, so we’re hopeful for him. I don’t think we’ll see him again in this tournament for us. His attention is turned to the World Cup. He’s in some discomfort but we need to be accurate with our assessment tomorrow. Fingers crossed that it is nothing too serious but it didn’t look that good.”

The injury to Jadhav will also be a big concern for the Indian team management heading into the World Cup. Less than a month remains for the start of the tournament, with Jadhav a crucial member of the Indian set-up. With his ability to score runs at a brisk pace and part-time spin bowling, he was set to bat for India in the lower middle-order.

Jadhav has had a quiet tournament for CSK so far, scoring 162 runs in 12 innings at a strike-rate of 95.86 and a top score of 58 against the Mumbai Indians.

CSK will next face off against MI in Qualifier 1 of the IPL on May 7 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
