Know more about India’s U-19 Captain Yash Dhull

Yash Dhull has been appointed as the captain of the Indian side for the 2021 ACC U19 Asia Cup. The All-India Junior Selection Committee had also announced the 17-member India squad for the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup and he is named as the leader of the side for this mega event as well.

In the 2021-22 season of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, the batter finished as the highest run-getter of the tournament. He chipped in 302 runs for the DDCA in the five games he played with an impressive average of 75.50. The batter has considerable experience of captaincy as he has previously led Delhi’s U-16, U-19, and India ‘A’ U-19 sides.

Rising up the ranks

Hailing from New Delhi’s Janakpuri, Dhull got himself enrolled in the Bal Bhawan school’s academy at the age of 11 and worked and developed his game from here. Making it big in the sport where there is a cutthroat competition demands a lot of hard work and sacrifices not just from the players but their families as well.

Dhull’s father worked as an executive with a cosmetic brand but then decided to give up his job to help Yash shape his career in the game. “I had to ensure he got the best kit and gear to play from an early age. I gave him the best of English willow bats. He didn’t have just one bat, I kept upgrading them. We had cut down on our expenses. My father was an army man. The pension that he received was used to run the household. Yash would always wonder how we were managing it,” said Yash’s father while speaking to Times Now.

In India’s opening fixture of the Asia Cup against the UAE, Dhull played a belligerent knock of 63 runs to pile up crucial runs for the side. A lot of hopes will be pinned on the talented right-handed batter from Delhi to lead the side from the font and finish the mega-events on a high note.
