Cricketing milestones, rise through the ranks, trials and tribulations and their glamorous lifestyles – we cover it all in the ‘Know Your Player’ section. In this edition, we will be taking a look at India’s rising sensation, Mayank Agarwal. Securing his spot in the national side on the back of his mountain of domestic runs, Agarwal’s career has been intriguing. Keep watching this space for a new superstar every time!

The Rise

Growing up, Agarwal was influenced by Virender Shewag’s audacious and flamboyant batting style. The opening batsman imitated that in his age-group cricket and earned a reputation for himself. Agarwal was the shining light for India in the otherwise forgettable campaign of 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup. The right-hander continued amassing attractive runs but soon his form deserted him.

Going through injuries and setbacks, Agarwal made a formidable return with a tremendous performance in the Ranji Trophy 2017-18. His astonishing tally of 1160 runs in a season included a triple century. The selectors had to notice the Karnataka batsman and he soon found a place in the national side. In December 2018, he made his Test debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and also featured in the 2019 World Cup.

Career Highlights
