Kohli fined by ICC for excessive appealing

India

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been penalised by the ICC for showing dissent towards the umpire during the match against Afghanistan. He has been found guilty of breaching the ICC’s Code of Conduct and has been fined 25% of his match fee.

The incident occurred during the 29th over of the match when he was unhappy with a decision by umpire Aleem Dar and appealed excessively and aggressively. Kohli agreed with the charge levelled upon him by match referee Chris Broad and a demerit point has also been added to his disciplinary record. This was his second offence since the Code of Conduct was revised in 2016.

The ICC released a statement which read:

“India captain Virat Kohli has been fined 25 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the ICC Cricket World Cup match against Afghanistan at Southampton on Saturday. Kohli was found to have breached Article 2.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to excessive appealing during an international match.”
