KS Bharat shares special moment with his mother after Test debut

Leading to the first Test match against fierce rivals Australia, India wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat’s mother shared a heartwarming moment with her son at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur. Rohit Sharma-led team India locked horns with the Aussies in the first of the four-match Test series.

Keeper-batter KS Bharat made his debut for the home side after earning his first cap on Thursday. The team chose Bharat as the first-choice wicketkeeper for the crucial red-ball contest in the absence of Rishabh Pant. Bharat and his mother shared a heartwarming moment when his mother got to know about Bharat’s debut. The mother-son duo was observed sharing a hug before the cricketer took the field for his highly anticipated debut.

With his debut, he became the 305th player to represent the Indian side in Tests. Previously, he filled in as a substitute for injured Saha in the first Test vs New Zealand in Nov 2021.

Watching my Test jersey is a very proud moment: KS Bharat

An elated Bharat opened up in a video shared by the BCCI about receiving the Test kit for the first time. He mentioned how his coach Jai Krishna Rao and India head coach Rahul Dravid supported him.

“It was a lot of joy to go back over the years from where it all started and coming all the way long here and watching my jersey, it is a very proud moment, there are lot of emotions. When I started playing First-Class, I never really thought of this day, to be very honest. All the credit goes to my coach Jai Krishna Rao, he believed that I had the potential when I was not really believing in myself,” the debutant shared.

“My journey was never skyrocketing, it has always grown in small steps. In 2018 in an India A series against England, Rahul (Dravid) sir saw me we had conversations of I can take the game to the next level and he never really changed what I am made of. He always insisted me to be the person I am,” added Bharat.

Alongside Bharat, Suryakumar Yadav too earned his cap and made his debut in the first Test match vs Australia.
