Longest home Test series win streaks

India, second-ranked Test team in the current ICC chart, finished the year 2022 with a 0-2 away Test series win against Bangladesh. They lost three away Test matches in entire year but remained unbeaten at home in two matches. The current no.1 Test team, Australia, suffered only Test defeat in the entire 2022 year and remained unbeaten at home.

Australia were the dominant force under the leadership of Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting but were overshadowed in the last decade with India topping the chart with for the record consecutive 42 months under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Both India and Australia have consistently managed to perform their best at home conditions lately. So, let’s take a look at the top three longest home Test series win streaks so far:

1. 15 wins – India (From February 2013 – Present)

Indian team last suffered a Test series defeat at home in February 2013 when they lost against England by 1-2 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. But they remain unbeaten at home with 15 Test series wins since then, mostly under the leadership of Virat Kohli. India also topped the ICC Test Team’s chart for record 42 months from October 2016 to May 2020 and recorded their biggest-ever Test win by the margin of runs during this period.

2. 10 wins – Australia (November 1994 – November 2000 & July 2004 – November 2008)

Australia were the dominant force in Test cricket under the leadership of Steve Waugh (1997-2004) and won 10 consecutive home Test series from November 1994 to November 2000. Ricky Ponting, Waugh’s successor, continues Australia’s dominance by recording 10 consecutive home Test series wins from July 2004 to November 2008. South Africa ended Australia’s winning streak at home with famous 1-2 series win.

3. 8 wins – West Indies (March 1976 – February 1986)

West Indies were the only teams to challenge Australia and England’s dominance in red-ball cricket during the 1970s and 1980s. They recorded eight consecutive home Test series win from March 1976 to February 1986. Under the legendary captain Clive Lloyd, West Indies also recorded the consecutive 27 Test wins from 1982-1984.
