Maxwell and Stoinis shine in Australia’s Intra-squad warm-up match

Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stonis put up exemplary performances in Australia’s intra-squad warm-up match at Southampton. Maxwell went to hit a century whereas Stoinis struck 87 with the bat and returned to take four wickets with the ball. Australia are scheduled to play three T20Is and three ODIs against England starting from 4th September.

The warm-up match was played between Aaron Finch XI and Pat Cummins XI. Finch 11 batted first. David Warner opening the batting scored 34 from 44 balls. The team then lost quick wickets as they found themselves languishing at 113/6. Andrew Tye along with Mitchell Starc raised a 106-run partnership for the 7th wicket. Their efforts helped Finch XI post 249 from 48.4 overs. Stoinis picked 4/31 while captain Cummins snapped two wickets for 41 runs. Leg-spinner Adam Zampa bowled a spell of 2/19 in his five overs. With one man short in the playing XI, Daniel Sams batted twice in this innings.

In reply, the Cummins XI was off to a shaky start. Matthew Wade was out for a duck while Steve Smith fell for eight. Batting at number four, Maxwell took the control of the innings in his hands. He and Stoinis added 174 runs for the third wicket. Stoinis fell 13 runs short of his century. His 87 came from 71 balls which included 12 fours and 2 sixes.  Maxwell fell after scoring 108 runs. He struck 11 fours and 2 sixes in 114 balls. Cummins XI struggled after losing Maxwell and were eight wickets down with one run still to be scored. Captain Cummins scored the winning run as they chased down the target with two wickets in hand.
