England’s Eoin Morgan has toppled India’s MS Dhoni and Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan to become the most successful captain in T20Is. On Monday, November 1, the Three Lions beat Sri Lanka by 26 runs in Sharjah after which Morgan made own the record. Even as Afghan and Dhoni have 42 wins each as skipper, Morgan has surpassed them with 43 victories.

However, Afghan’s win percentage of 81.73 remains the highest among the celebrated trio. Afghan has recently retired from international cricket after the match against Namibia on Sunday, October 31. Morgan, in the meantime, has had a memorable run in the ongoing edition of the T20 World Cup in the UAE as the Brits have won all four of their matches in the Super 12.

After their win over Lanka, England are all, but through to the semis. Their net run rate of 3.183 is also the best among the 12 participating teams in the Super 12. Their last Super 12 match is against Temba Bavuma’s South Africa on November 6.

I thought Jos Buttler played one off his best-ever innings, says Eoin Morgan

Following England’s win against Lanka, Morgan oozed pride and lauded his teammates for stepping up. Defending 163, the Brits bowled the Islanders out for 137 in 19 overs. He also lauded Jos Buttler for playing “one off his best-ever innings”.

I am incredibly proud of everything we have done tonight. The guys had to fight incredibly hard. Conditions here continued to change, Tymal going out asked another question of ourselves. But Livingstone and Moeen stepped up exceptionally well with the other guys,” Morgan said.

“I can’t fault our guys tonight. I thought Jos Buttler played one off his best-ever innings in an England shirt. It was incredible to be at the other end and watch. He is one of the best in the game and it’s a privilege to have him in our team,” he added.

Buttler scored an unbeaten 67-ball 101, laced with six fours and as many sixes. The right-hander carried on from where he left off against Australia where he stayed not out on 71 off 32, helping England win by eight wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
