Most 250-plus scores among active players in Test cricket

Tom Latham

It won’t be wrong to say that T20 has become a fan-favourite format in recent years with the proceedings with crisp and full of momentum shifts. However, nothing can defy the fact that Test cricket still remains the hardest format to thrive. Unlike limited-overs matches, a player can’t change the course of the game in the span of deliveries. Instead, the individual needs to grind for hours or even days to earn success.

Challenge for batters also becomes sterner in the purest format. After all, the red ball tends to do more talking than the white one. Also, bowlers have the liberty to look for wickets without concerning much about the scoring rate. A matter of fact is all it takes one delivery to get a batter out.

Hence, a slight loss in concentration can bring curtains to a batter’s outing. However, there are still some batters going around who have embraced this challenge. Their hunger doesn’t get over even after reaching the three-figure mark. Hence, whenever they clicked, the bowling side endured a hard time.

Meanwhile, let’s look at active players with the most 250-plus score in Test cricket:

  1. David Warner – 2

Australia’s David Warner

One of the most destructive openers going around, David Warner has been a vital cog of Australia’s batting line-up across formats. Regardless of the format, the pocket-sized dynamo backs his instincts and attacks bowlers from the outset. This approach has even earned him phenomenal success in Test matches. In fact, he is the only active player with a triple century. While he slammed 335 against Pakistan in 2019, 253 is his second-highest Test score which was recorded against New Zealand in 2015.

2. Tom Latham – 2

Speaking of New Zealand, Tom Latham is the only other active player with more than one 250-plus score in Test cricket. Unlike Warner, Latham likes to go about his business steadily. The Kiwi opener possesses a solid defence and his knack of playing marathon knocks makes him an even greater headache for the opposition. Meanwhile, Latham’s highest Test score of 264 was recorded against Sri Lanka in 2018. In January 2022, the southpaw mustered 252 against Bangladesh.
