Most centuries by teams in T20I cricket

T20I cricket has turned out to be an absolute entertainer ever since its introduction nearly two decades ago. Many players have embraced this format exceptionally well and have also shattered various records with their consistency level. The biggest challenge in the shortest format is to contain the runs in the Powerplay overs with only two fielders allowed inside the circle.

While individual performances have obviously been one of the important aspects of this format, even collective performances have been equally essential as well, especially when it comes to scoring most centuries in T20Is. Without further ado, here’s a look at three of them.

3. Australia

Australia have emerged as one of the best and the strongest T20I sides in the last 12 months and went on to lift their maiden T20 World Cup in the UAE last month. They followed it up with bilateral series triumphs on Asian conditions- Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the last few months.

When it comes to collective batting performances, the Aussies take the third spot as the team with the most number of centuries in T20I cricket, the reigning T20 world champions have succeeded in breaching the three-figure mark on seven occasions. The current limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch was the first T20I centurion for the Aussies. He achieved this feat against arch-rivals England in August 2013.

Finch has scored two tons and others include Shane Watson (1), Glenn Maxwell (3) and David Warner (1)

2. New Zealand

New Zealand have also been one of the most successful T20I sides over the last few years under visionary leaders Brendon McCullum and Kane Williamson. They made their maiden T20 World Cup final appearance last year going down to Australia.

As far as team centuries are concerned, they have gone on to register eight of them. The trend started with the explosive McCullum scoring a 56-ball unbeaten 116 against the Trans-Tasman rivals Australia in February 2010.

While McCullum has scored two centuries, Colin Munro has made three of them and Martin Guptill (2) as well.

  1. India

India were crowned the first-ever T20 world champions in 2007 and since then have gone on to do wonders in the shortest format. They have shattered several records in this format and also feature in this elite list of the most number of team centuries with eight to their name.

While Suresh Raina became India’s first centurion scoring a 60-ball 101 against South Africa in May 2010, others include the current captain Rohit Sharma who has four of them to his name and KL Rahul (2) as well as Deepak Hooda (1) respectively.
