The Indian team hosts Australia in the much-awaited four-match Test series, also known as Border-Gavaskar Trophy, starting on February 9 in Nagpur. Australia, the no.1 ranked Test team, enter this series with some impressive performances over the last two years.

But the Indian team is the favourite to win this trophy due to home advantage and recent head-to-heat stats. With Jasprit Bumrah missing the series, they will be relying on performances from star batters Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. The Australian team will count on Steven Smith, who has amazing numbers in Border-Gavaskar Trophy with eight centuries. Kohli is not far behind with seven centuries. 3) 7 Centuries – Virat Kohli & Michael Clarke

Kohli went through a tough patch as he failed to score hundreds across formats for almost three years. However, the former Indian captain has regained his best form in white-ball cricket with four centuries recently and will be looking to carry the momentum in Tests as well.

He has scored 1682 runs from just 20 Tests with the help of seven centuries in Border-Gavaskar Trophy history and is only two tons behind leader Sachin Tendulkar. The former Australian star Michael Clarke also left a big mark in Border-Gavaskar Trophy with seven centuries and six half-centuries.

2) 8 Centuries – Steven Smith & Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting scorched mountains of runs across formats and excelled further on big occasions. Ponting is the second-highest leading run-getter in Border-Gavaskar Trophy history, with 2555 runs from 29 Tests, including eight centuries and 12 fifties. 

Steven Smith, who has scored almost 9000 Test runs at an impressive average of 60.89, has also been a consistent performer in Border-Gavaskar Trophy history. He has scored 1742 runs from just 14 Test with eight tons, just one behind Sachin Tendulkar.

1) 9 Centuries – Sachin Tendulkar

The Indian great, who scored almost 16000 Test runs with record 51 centuries, always put on his best display against mighty Australians. During Sachin’s peak, the Australian team dominated world cricket, but the former Indian captain also left his mark. Sachin is the leading run-scorer in Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 3262 runs from 34 Tests, including a record nine centuries and 16 half-centuries.
