The Indian Premier League (IPL) took place for the first time in 2008 and since then, the tournament has gained popularity season after season. Cricketers worldwide participate in the competition as fans enjoy the rollercoaster ride for almost two months every year. The IPL has witnessed some outstanding centuries from some prominent cricketers and the ones with the most features in this article.

3. David Warner, Shane Watson and KL Rahul (4)

The Australian batters David Warner and Shane Watson and India’s KL Rahul are all tied in the third position for smashing four centuries in the history of the Indian Premier League. Warner, the third-highest run-scorer in the IPL, has scored 5881 runs in 162 innings at an average of 42.00 and a strike rate of 140.69 with 55 fifties and the best score of 126.

His countryman Watson has amassed 3874 runs in 141 innings at an average of 30.99 and a strike rate of 137.91. He has slammed 21 half-centuries with the highest score of 117*. Watson is one of the two players with Wriddhiman Saha to hit a ton in an IPL final.

Rahul, having made his debut in 2013, has mustered 3889 runs in 100 innings at an average of 48.01 and a strike rate of 136.21 with 31 fifties and the best score of 132*.

2. Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler (5)

Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler are joint-second for slamming five centuries in IPL’s history. Having made his debut in the inaugural season in 2008, Kohli, who is also the highest run-getter in the tournament, has hammered 6624 runs in 215 innings at an average of 36.19 and a strike rate of 129.14 with 44 fifties and the highest score of 113. He set the 2016 edition on fire in which he smacked 973 runs and four tons.

Buttler followed the suit as he too hammered four centuries in the 2022 campaign. The Englishman, who made his IPL debut in 2016, has played 82 matches and struck 2831 runs at an average of 39.87 and a strike rate of 149.70. In 81 innings, he has hit five tons and 15 fifties with the highest score of 124.

1. Chris Gayle (6)

Known as the ‘Universe Boss’ and the legend of T20 cricket, Chris Gayle tops this elite list for hitting six centuries in the IPL. The legendary left-hander made his debut in the cash-rich league in 2009. Since then, Gayle has smashed 4965 runs in 141 innings at an average of 39.72 and a strike rate of 148.96. The Jamaican has hit 31 half-centuries with the highest of 175*, which is the best individual score in all forms of T20 cricket. Gayle also holds the record for hitting the most maximums (357) in the tournament.
