Most dismissals by a bowler against a batter in Tests

Getting dismissed during a game is one thing, but getting dismissed repeatedly against the same bowler adds a different pressure on the batter. While it is a sense of pride for the bowler, having found the opposition batter’s weak link, that is not the case for the batter. The level of frustration keeps increasing every time the batter is dismissed against the same bowler.

On that note, let us look at the bowlers who have dismissed a batter the most times in Tests-

Curtly Ambrose vs Michael Atherton | 17 dismissals

Former England opening batter Michael Atherton, who represented his national side in 115 Tests, was dismissed by West Indies bowler Curtly Ambrose 17 times. Ambrose has a total of 405 wickets to his name in the red-ball format, but the Caribbean player used to be at his best against Atherton.

Courtney Walsh vs Michael Atherton | 17 dismissals

Michael Atherton’s weakness was not just exposed to Ambrose, but also to Courtney Walsh. One of the fastest pacers during his times, Walsh finished his career with 519 wickets to his name from 242 innings of 132 games. He was a popular name among the opposition batters of every team and dismissed Atherton 17 times in his career.

Alec Bedser vs Arthur Morris | 18 dismissals

England’s Alec Bedser, who represented his side in 51 Tests between 1946-1955, was one of the top bowlers for England. England and Australia have been the biggest rivalries in the Test format, which is known to all, and Bedser made their clashes even more interesting while bowling against Australia’s Arthur Morris, having dismissed him 18 times in Tests.

Glenn McGrath vs Michael Atherton | 19 dismissals

England’s Michael Atherton has been at the receiving end in Tests many times. He faced difficulties while facing not just the Caribbean bowlers, but also Australian legend Glenn McGrath. Atherton, during his career, fell prey to many bowlers, but McGrath managed to get the better of him most times. Having played 124 Tests, Atherton gave his wicket to McGrath a whopping 19 times.
