Most matches won by a team across formats in a calendar year

Over the years many teams have shown a great consistency across formats in year. Notably, it is India who has featured on this elite list on a regular basis despite their inability to win an ICC tournament since the 2013 Champions Trophy under Mahendra Singh Dhoni. However, one team does feature in this category having won a prestigious ICC tournament when they were on a roll in a calendar year and without further ado, here’s a look at three of them.

3. India – 37 (2017)

The Men in Blue enjoyed a good 2017 as they showcased consistent performances in both home and away bilateral games. What was more special is that batting megastar Virat Kohli was named the Indian team’s full-time captain in January of that year. India went on to register 37 victories in 2017. Nonetheless, an ICC Champions Trophy triumph would have been an icing on the cake for the Men in Blue. Kohli & Co. did make the finals, but went down to arch-rivals Pakistan by a humiliating 180 runs in a one-sided title clash.

2. Australia – 38 (2003)

It can rightly be stated that the mighty Australian team led by the talismanic Ricky Ponting was invincible on the cricket field back in 2003 as they had proven match-winners in their playing XI as well as reserves. The Aussies lifted that year’s World Cup in South Africa without breaking a sweat as they remained undefeated throughout the tournament. Australia succeeded in registering 38 victories in 2003 and they could have easily topped the list had the T20I format been played back then.

1. India- 46 (2022)

After 19 years of the great Aussie dominance, they were finally dethroned by the Indian team who showcased consistent performances and also remained undefeated in the bilateral T20I series both at home and away conditions. Unfortunately for the Men in Blue, they failed to make the finals of the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup 2022. Nonetheless, the Indian team did succeed in registering 46 victories in 2022 across formats and this record might remain intact for a long time.
