Most ODI runs in a calendar year

Over the years, India has maintained a dominant run in the ODI format due to their high-profile batting. The likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma are the current stars of the Indian team. Rohit Sharma’s five hundreds during the 2019 ICC World Cup ensured he finished the year with 1490 runs and was also the top scorer in the ODI format during that year. Similarly, Kohli topped the list in 2017 after smashing 1460 runs in the 50-over. In this article, we will talk about three such batters with the most runs in ODIs in a calendar year. Spoilers ahead, all three batters are Indians.

3. (1761 runs) – Rahul Dravid in 1999

Veteran batter and current team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid comes third on the list after smashing 1761 runs in 1999. Dravid was in excellent touch during the World Cup and was the highest run-getter even after team India’s early exit from the group stage matches.

2. (1767 runs) – Sourav Ganguly in 1999

Just like his teammate, former Indian skipper and current Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly was in emphatic touch in 1999. The left-handed batter scored 1767 runs in that year as he scored six more runs as compared to Dravid.

1. (1894 runs) – Sachin Tendulkar in 1998

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar was in red-hot form with the bat in 1998 as he amassed 1894 runs during that year. Not only in the ODI format, but Sachin also smashed more than 2,500 runs in the Test format as he stroked 12 international centuries. During that year, Sachin bamboozled the Australian bowling line-up as he stroked back-to-back centuries in Sharjah.
