Most runs at a venue in a calendar year

Form can be a big factor in deciding a player’s stature in international cricket and it is very important to capitalise while batting well. Even the best of players has gone through tough phases in their long careers while some batters have enjoyed scoring at a certain venue. Sometimes, the batter keeps scoring centuries after centuries in a year in a particular venue. On that note, let us look at the top three players with the most runs at a venue in a calendar year.

709 runs – Sachin Tendulkar at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, 1998

Sachin Tendulkar is third on the list of most runs at a venue in a calendar year. As a lot of ODIs took place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the 1990s, plenty of batters got used to the conditions quite well. Among those, Tendulkar scored 709 runs in 1998 and had a prolific year across formats at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

738 runs – Zaheer Abbas at Gaddafi Stadium, 1982

Zaheer Abbas was one of the most consistent batters in the 1980s and he was the first batter to score three consecutive centuries in ODIs. He had some outstanding numbers in the two formats he played and 1982 was a productive year for the right-hander. Abbas made 738 runs in the year 1982 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and he relished playing in his home conditions. He is the second on the list to most runs at a venue in a calendar year.

753 runs – Sikandar Raza at Harare Sports Club, 2022

Sikandar Raza has had a splendid run this year, especially in the ODI. The Zimbabwe all-rounder has taken responsibility in the middle-order and has managed to crawl his side out of tough situations. The 36-year-old scored 753 runs at the Harare Sports Club so far in 2022 and is likely to add some more to his tally. He currently holds the record for the most runs at a venue in a calendar year.
