Most runs conceded in an innings on Test debut

Over the years, many bowlers have gone on to showcase memorable and forgettable bowling performances on Test debut. While there have been many bowlers who have made merry on good tracks on debut, there have been a few who struggled on dead and flat wickets when they first started at the highest level.

All the bowlers look forward to starting their international careers by creating a good first impression, but not every time does it turn out that way. Without further ado, here’s a look at three of the bowlers who have been at the receiving end on debut.

3. Jason Krejza 8/215 vs India, 2008

Former Australian pacer Jason Krejza might have taken eight wickets on debut during the first innings of the Nagpur Test match against India, but he was also milked for runs by the famed Indian batting line-up in their own backyard. Krejza finished with figures of 8/215 while registering 12 wickets in the Test. He was the standout performer for the Aussies. India went on to win that Test match by a massive 172 runs.

2. Suraj Randiv 2/222 vs India, 2010

Suraj Randiv had a forgettable debut. He appeared for Sri Lanka for the first time in 2010 against India, in the second Test match of the series in Colombo. The hosts had declared their innings at a mammoth 642/4 batting first courtesy of skipper Kumar Sangakkara’s brilliant 219, but the bowlers really toiled hard on a batting-friendly wicket. Suraj Randiv had a forgettable outing. He finished with figures of 2/222 in the first innings. The contest eventually ended in a stalemate.

1. Zahid Mahmood 4/235 vs England 2022,

Pakistan’s new bowling sensation Zahid Mahmood tops this unwanted list. In the first innings of the Rawalpindi Test Mahmood ended up conceding 235 runs. England posted a mammoth 657 runs on the board. Mahmood’s only solace was that he registered a four-wicket haul but he was thrashed all over the park by England batters.
