Most runs in BBL

The Big Bash League (BBL), which runs between December-February every season, ushers in the start of the Australian summer. The T20 league has seen some elite batters live up to their reputation since the first season back in 2011. There are a few batters who are renowned for slamming the bowlers all across the stadium and scoring runs in hefty in the process.

On that note, let us look at three players with the most runs in the history of the tournament:

3. Jonathan Wells | 2765* runs | 125* matches

Prior to joining the Adelaide Strikers, Wells spent the first six seasons of the BBL playing for the Hobart Hurricanes. He helped the Strikers defeat his former team Hurricanes in the competition’s final during his first season. Wells then found a new home with the Melbourne Renegades for the 2022-23 edition but kept performing in a similar manner. He is currently the third-highest run-scorer of the tournament with 2765 runs to his name.

2. Aaron Finch | 3,235* runs | 101* matches

One of the rare players in the tournament to have remained with just one franchise throughout, Aaron Finch has captained Melbourne Renegades for nine straight seasons. After a spate of unsuccessful seasons, Finch’s Renegades won their first trophy in 2018–19 when they overcame Melbourne Stars. The two-time centurion for Renegades has 3235 runs from 111 games.

1. Chris Lynn | 3,421* runs | 113 matches

Chris Lynn has played every edition of the tournament since the inception of BBL in 2011. Before the 2022–23 season, Lynn, who spent his first 11 seasons with Brisbane Heat, moved to Adelaide Strikers. In the second edition, he scored 175 runs in nine matches, including two half-centuries, and led Brisbane Heat to their lone championship title. Lynn has the distinction of hitting the most sixes in tournament history. He is the top run-getter in the league history, with 3421 runs from 113 games.
