Most sixes in an Ashes series

The historic Ashes series goes back a long way with the first series played way back in 1882. In this 140-year-long rivalry, the fans have witnessed some of the most thrilling matches played between Australia and England which has served as the perfect advertisement for Test cricket. Numerous legends from both teams have graced the field in Ashes and etched their names in the annals of history with their stupendous performances. Apart from the textbook batters, the series has also witnessed some of the fiercest strikers of the ball who had a knack for sending the ball over the fence mercilessly. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three batters with the most sixes in an Ashes series:

3. Ben Stokes (13 sixes), Ashes 2019

Ben Stokes was seen in imperious form during the Ashes 2019 as he played one of the greatest knocks in the history of Tests. His unbeaten 135* at Headingley became part of the Ashes folklore as he guided England to a miraculous one-wicket win. Stokes finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the series with 441 runs to his name from ten innings, smashing 13 sixes.

2. Kevin Pietersen (14 sixes), Ashes 2005

Kevin Pietersen announced his arrival in Test cricket in style as he took on the famed bowling attack of Australia. His flamboyant 18 in the fifth and final Test at the Oval ensured that England regain the urn after 18 years. Pietersen finished as the highest run-scorer of the series, with 473 runs to his name from 10 innings at an average of 52.55. He smacked 14 sixes during the series which is the second-most in Ashes history.

1. Ben Stokes (15 sixes), Ashes 2023

Having been entrusted with the task of revamping the England Test side, Stokes took it upon himself to lead from the front in the Ashes 2023 and introduced Australian bowlers to ‘Bazball’ in his own manner. He put forth his immaculate hitting prowess in the second Test at Lord’s with his sensational 155 making Australia relive the horrors of Headingley 2019.  However, he could not get his team over the line on this occasion. The England captain finished as the fourth-highest run-getter of the series with 405 runs from five matches, including 15 sixes in five games.
