Most sixes in international cricket

The ongoing New Zealand vs England and India vs Australia Test series are proving a great platform for the record chasers. English star Joe Root smashed his 28th Test century while the Indian captain Rohit Sharma ended his century drought with a spectacular knock against Australia in the Nagpur Test.

England red-ball captain Ben Stokes could not make an impact but he achieved a great feat in the first Test against Kiwis. He smashed two sixes and became the leading cricketer with the most sixes in Test history. Rohit also smashed five sixes in the opening two Tests against Australia and comfortably leads the sixes chart in T20Is. But who has hit the most sixes across all three formats combined? So, let’s find out.

3) 476 sixes – Shahid Afridi

The former Pakistani batting all-rounder was one of the most fearsome big-hitter across formats. He is third in the most sixes in international cricket with 476 sixes in 524 matches and holds the record for the best strike rate while dealing with sixes among the top ten in the list.

2) 523 sixes – Rohit Sharma

Rohit continues to add numbers to his sixes tally with five more in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He already holds the record for most sixes in T20Is and has smashed overall 523 sixes from 436 international matches so far. He is only 30 sixes behind the former West Indies star Chris Gayle.

1) 553 sixes – Chris Gayle

It’s not that difficult to guess the top name in this chart. The Caribbean maestro Chris Gayle tops the chart with 553 sixes in 483 international matches. He stands fourth in the all-time Test chart with 98 sixes to his name, while he is at the second spot in ODIs with 331 maximums. He is also the fourth in the list of most sixes in T20Is with 124 maximums.
