Most successful Indian captain in Women’s T20I

T20 cricket has taken over the entire globe as the game is getting popularized by the fast and exciting format. The seeds of making T20 popular were sown in India with the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. And now with the introduction of the Women’s Premier League, the format is expected to take Women’s Cricket to heights never known before.

The Indian women’s team played their first T20I against England in 2006. Since then, they have improved their performance in the shortest format of the game. Till date, India have had five captains in T20Is but only a few of them have a great record in international cricket. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three most successful captains for India in WT20Is:

3. Jhulan Goswami

The legendary fast bowler has captained India in 18 matches winning eight out of those with a win percentage of 44.44. She has represented India in 68 T20Is picking 56 wickets at an average of 21.94 with one five-wicket haul to her name. The 40-year-old also ranks on the fifth spot in the list of most wicket takers for India in WT20Is.

2. Mithali Raj

Mithali Raj has been one of the pillars of Indian women’s cricket in the past two decades. She led India in 32 T20Is winning 17 out of those with a win percentage of 53.12%. She has represented India in 89 T20Is scoring 2364 runs at an average of 37.52 with 17 half-centuries to her name. The 40-year-old legend is the third-highest run-getter for India in WT20IS.

1. Harmanpreet Kaur

The current captain of the Indian Cricket team has led the side in 96 T20Is so far and has won 54 out of those at a win percentage of 59.23. Under her leadership, India recently reached the semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. She Is also the leading run-scorer for India in WT20Is, having amassed 3058 runs at an average of 28.05 and a strike rate of 106.31.
