Most Test centuries for non-Asian batter in Asia

Alastair Cook

Kane Williamson ended his century drought in style as he smashed 200* in the first Test against Pakistan Karachi on December 29. This was his sixth double ton in Test cricket, breaking Brendon McCullum’s record of five. He is now only behind India’s Virat Kohli (7), among active cricketers.

Williamson also became the first non-Asian cricketer to score Test centuries in 10 different countries. This was his 25th Test hundred and a sixth in Asia but he is not among the top-three non-Asian cricketers who have scored the most Test centuries in Asia so far. So, let’s find out which non-Asian batter has scored the most Test centuries in Asia.

3. 7 centuries – Hashim Amla

Hashim Amla ended his career as one of the best openers of his generation regardless the formats. He remains the second-highest run-scorer for the Proteas in Tests with 9282 runs at an average of 46.64 with the help of 28 hundreds. His performances in Asian conditions, especially against India, were always up to the mark. He scored 1859 runs from 43 Test innings in Asia with the help of seven centuries, the third-most by a non-Asian batter in Asia.

2. 8 centuries – Jacques Kallis

Despite retiring from international cricket in 2013, Jacques Kallis remains the leading run-scorer for South Africa in both Tests and ODIs. Kallis is one of five players with 25000-plus runs in international cricket and without any doubt remains one of the best all-rounders in the history of cricket. Kallis scored 13026 runs from 165 Tests with the help of 45 hundreds. Out of those 45 hundreds, Kallis scored eight in Asia, the second-most by a non-Asian cricketer in Asia.

1. 9 centuries – Alastair Cook

It’s been nearly half a decade since his international retirement, but Alastair Cook remains England’s leading run-scorer in Test cricket. Cook scored the fifth-highest 12472 runs in 161 Tests at an average of 45.35 with the help of record 33 hundreds from his nation. Compared to other continents, Cook’s numbers in Asia were quite impressive. He scored 2710 runs from 55 Test innings in Asia at an impressive average of 53.14 with the help of nine centuries and 11 fifties.
