Most Test wickets at home by Indian pacers

The Test format is one of the most prestigious forms of cricket. It would be unfathomable to win the match without the bowlers, especially in the red-ball version since they have proved to be a crucial component of the game. The ability of the bowler to take wickets largely determines whether a side wins or loses a game. Although most Indian surfaces are spin-friendly, various pacers have established their influence on Indian soil with dazzling bowling performances. On that note, we take a look at the top three Indian pacers with the most Test wickets at home-

3. Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan – 104 wickets

Two of the most renowned names in Indian cricket- Ishant Sharma and Zaheer Khan, were outstanding with the ball. Zaheer, the left-arm wonder, swung the ball with ease, whereas Ishant Sharma frequently received an additional bounce courtesy of his height. The two garnered massive number of wickets and are tied for third place in terms of most wickets taken in Test matches at home with 104 wickets each.

2. Javagal Srinath – 108 wickets

The former India pacer was a lethal bowler during his stint with the national team. Batters would look to play Srinath delicately considering his fiery pace. He aggregated 108 wickets in Tests which makes him the second-highest wicket taker among pacers in India at home soil.

1. Kapil Dev – 219 wickets

The 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, has the record for the most wickets on home soil as a pacer in India. The former cricketer comfortably holds the top spot on the elite list after collecting a staggering 219 wickets. In addition, he is the only bowler to surpass 200 wickets in an Indian Test match. Although it would be difficult to beat this specific record, it would be intriguing to see if any pacer from the more recent crop could unseat Kapil Dev. Even reaching the 200-wicket mark would be a significant accomplishment.
