Most Tests won by a team at a venue

England and Australia played a first-ever Test match in 1877 and since then, the red-ball format remains the purest form of cricket. England have played over 1000 Test matches and the Australian team has been the most successful team with 404 Test wins. 

The current top-two teams in the ICC charts, Australia and India, are engaged in a four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. Both teams have dominated Test cricket in the last two decades and are in contention to qualify for the World Test Championship final. The venues have always been an important part of Test cricket since its inception.

Australia’s Melbourne Cricket Ground hosted the first-ever Test match while England’s Lord’s has hosted record 143 matches so far. Winning at these iconic venues is a big achievement for travelling teams. Apart from Lord’s, only three other venues have hosted over 100 Test matches so far while. 3) 56 wins – England at Lord’s, London

Lord’s in London is one of the most iconic venues in cricket, having hosted a record 143 Tests. England have won 56, lost 34, and drawn in 51 Tests at Lord’s so far, with a win-to-loss ratio of  1.64.

2) 60 wins – Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney

Sydney Cricket Ground first hosted a Test match in 1882, where Australia beat England by five wickets. Since then, Australia have won 60, lost 28, and drew in 23 out of 111 Test matches played here. However, they are unbeaten at Sydney Cricket Ground in their last 12 Test matches, having last lost against England in June 2011.

1) 66 wins – Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne

Melbourne Cricket Ground hosted the first-ever Test match in 1877 and since then has been a host to 115 Test matches. Australia have always dominated at the venue, with a record 66 wins so far, six more than that they have at Sydney Cricket Ground. However, they have also lost 32 matches here but hold an impressive win-to-loss ratio of 2.06.
