It is quite an achievement when batters score crucial runs to get their teams ahead in a contest irrespective of the format of the game. However, in the longest format, not many players have the resilience to score on a consistent basis. In this piece, we take a look at the top scores for India in home Tests –

3. Virender Sehwag – 24

Sehwag was regarded as an aggressive batter not just in ODIs or T20Is but also in the longest format of the game. The batter got runs swiftly and often ended up as the top-scorer for the team. Notably, he top-scored for India in a home Test as many as 24 games and is third on the list.

2. Sunil Gavaskar – 29

Sunil Gavaskar was arguably the best batter for India and world cricket during his time. The side relied on him on numerous occasions to perform and win games. Aggregating runs for the national side in the Tests did not come difficult for the batter and he was the first man in the sport’s history to scale 10,000 runs in Tests. On 29 occasions in Tests at home, Gavaskar was the top-scorer of the side.

1. Sachin Tendulkar – 33

Still regarded as the best batter in the world, Sachin Tendulkar did most of the talking with his bat. He was synonymous with breaking and creating new records and has scripted so many could only dream of surpassing. In Tests at home, he holds the record for top-scoring with an impressive 33 times for the national side. It remains to be seen if this record can be surpassed in the coming years by his successors. Tendulkar bid the game goodbye in 2013, however, many of his records, like this one, stand undisturbed to date.
