Mumbai Indians have a very weak spin-bowling attack: Lalchand Rajput

In the Indian Premier League 2022 season, Mumbai Indians (MI) have been disappointing with their performances and have no wins in three appearances, and are in the last position in the points table. The former Indian cricketer and present Zimbabwe head coach Lalchand Rajput spoke about the performances of MI and discussed their deficiencies witnessed this season.

Lalchand Rajput opined that MI does not possess a quality bowling attack this season, and lacks a spark as compared to the previous editions where the likes of Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar picked up wickets consistently in the middle overs.

“It is certainly a worrying factor as the MI bowlers are getting exposed. Apart from Bumrah, they are lacking quality spinner in between, and earlier the team had the presence of Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar. They certainly have a very weak spin-bowling attack,” said Lalchand Rajput on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket Show’ on CricTracker.

The former cricketer added that the Kiwi fast bowler Trent Boult was impressive to provide breakthroughs for the team in the powerplay overs and was a big help to their success in the previous few editions. He pointed out that MI shelled out INR eight crore for Jofra Archer, who was not available for the entire 2022 season and the current squad does not have enough wicket-taking bowlers to partner Bumrah.

If Pollard doesn’t fire, Mumbai Indians are struggling: Lalchand Rajput

Rajput spoke on the added pressure on Kieron Pollard to provide a late flourish to MI in the absence of Hardik Pandya. He pressed on the fact that the duo of Pandya and Pollard could keep calm in pressure situations, and win matches on a regular basis by hitting even 20 runs in a single over.

“Earlier they used to have a combination of Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard in the middle order, where they could score even 20 runs in an over. In this season, if Pollard doesn’t fire, they are struggling in the middle,” Lalchand added.
