New Zealand’s men cricketers will get back on the field for training at the High Performance Centre in Lincoln this week. This will be their first training session after the coronavirus pandemic halted cricket. Women cricketers have already started training.

New Zealand Cricket issued a statement on Monday (13th July) which announced that six national camps will be conducted in the coming few months.

“New Zealand’s top male and female cricketers will return to squad trainings at the NZC High Performance centre in Lincoln this week, in the first of six national camps scheduled for the coming winter months,” NZC release said.

“The South Island and Wellington-based BLACKCAPS and WHITE FERNS will train at the Canterbury hub this week, while a larger second camp for players further North will commence at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui from July 19,” it added.

New Zealand is one of the least-effected countries by the coronavirus pandemic. The island nation took early steps in isolating itself. The country currently has 25 active cases and their total death count stands at 22.

International cricket has taken its first steps towards a resumption with England and the West Indies engaging in a three-match Test series. Other cricket teams have also started training routines. India is yet to begin with cricket training.
