Highest individual scores in ODI run-chases

Chasing isn’t an easy art in the game of cricket. When the scoreboard pressure sets in, it calls for calmness and skill from the players. While some players succumb to the pressure, others thrive and emerge victorious. In this article, we will take a look at the three highest individual scores in ODI run-chases.

3) 185* – Shane Watson vs Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2011

Australia and Bangladesh locked horns on April 11, 2011, in Dhaka, in the second game of a three-match ODI series. Batting first, Bangladesh posted a score of 229/7 in the first innings. The 230-run target wasn’t really intimidating and Bangladesh needed early wickets to exert pressure on the away side. Shakib Al Hasan got rid of Brad Haddin in the ninth over. However, Australia were already off to a rollicking start at that point thanks to star all-rounder Shane Watson. The Ipswich-born hit 15 boundaries and as many sixes during his unbeaten knock of 185 off 96 balls as the tourists crossed the line with nine wickets and 24 overs to spare.

2) 193 – Fakhar Zaman vs South Africa in Johannesburg in 2021

In the second ODI between Pakistan and South Africa on April 4, 2021, in Johannesburg, Fakhar Zaman played an innings to remember and almost single-handedly won his team the game. The Proteas posted 341/6 in their 50 overs. In reply, Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals but Fakhar held the fort. He was eventually run out for 193 off 155 balls, hitting 18 fours and 10 sixes, as Pakistan lost by just 17 runs. The second-highest scorer for Pakistan in the innings was Babar Azam, who scored 31.

1) 201* – Glenn Maxwell vs Afghanistan in Mumbai in 2023

Glenn Maxwell became the first player to score a double century while chasing in ODIs on November 7, 2023. The swashbuckling all-rounder achieved this remarkable feat in the ODI World Cup 2023 game between Australia and Afghanistan in Mumbai. The Asian side set a target of 292 for Australia. The former five-time world champions were in all sorts of trouble at 91/7. However, Maxwell played a scintillating knock of 201* off 128 balls to take the Aussies home with three wickets and 19 balls in the bank. The right-handed batter hit 21 fours and 10 sixes in his whirlwind innings.
