Mitchell McClenaghan

Former New Zealand cricketer Mitchell McClenaghan was recently announced as the new bowling coach of ILT20 side MI Emirates. A four-time IPL champion with Mumbai Indians, the role will be the first major one for McClenaghan in the coaching department.

McClenaghan will be working under Robin Singh, who is the head coach of the side. Singh stepped down from the same role in UAE and has replaced former Kiwi pacer Shane Bond who is fulfilling his duties for Paarl Royals in the SA20.

Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has also joined MI Emirates as the side’s batting coach and Vinay Kumar (assistant coach) and James Franklin (fielding coach) will continue in their roles from the ILT20’s inaugural season.

MI Emirates aims to go big after 2023’s close shave

With the upcoming season of the ILT20 all set to begin on January 19, MI Emirates will hope for a similar performance in the upcoming season as well. The side barely missed out on the summit clash of the tournament in the inaugural season and was eliminated in Qualifier 2 by Gulf Giants, who went on to win the tournament eventually.

For the upcoming season, MI Emirates will kick off their season by taking on Dubai Capitals on January 20, both sides will face off at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, and the side will be under the leadership of West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran, who joined the side after a stint with Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20.
