Most sixes by a team in a World Cup match

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has enthralled the fans with numerous riveting encounters so far in the tournament. Records have been sent for a toss as batters have hammered bowlers for fun in the first 28 matches of the cricketing extravaganza. As the ongoing World Cup continues to be a run fest for the batters, let’s take a look at the top three instances of the most sixes hit by a team in a World Cup match:

3) 19 sixes by West Indies vs Zimbabwe in 2015, Australia vs Pakistan in 2023, South Africa vs Bangladesh in 2023

There have been three instances of a team registering 19 sixes in a World Cup game. The first took place during the 2015 edition when Chris Gayle equalled the record for most sixes in an ODI clobbering 16 sixes in his innings of 215 (147).

The second incident was during the Australia-Pakistan encounter in the ongoing World Cup where David Warner (163 off 124) and Mitchell Marsh (121 off 108) smacked nine each. The third instance also came in the 2023 edition during the South Africa-Bangladesh fixture where Quinton de Kock (174 off 140, 7 sixes) and Heinrich Klaasen (90 off 49, 8 sixes) did most of the damage.

2) 20 sixes by Australia vs New Zealand, Match 27, Dharamsala, World Cup 2023

The second spot is also taken by Australia as they smacked 20 sixes against New Zealand during Match 27 of the 2023 edition. David Warner (81 off 65, 6 sixes) and Travis Head (109 off 67, 7 sixes) did the most of the damage Australia posted a massive score of 388. In reply, New Zealand came agonizingly close to chasing down the target as they reached 383/9 in their allotted 50 overs and lost the match by five runs.

1) 25 sixes by England vs Afghanistan, Match 24, Manchester, World Cup 2019

After captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first, he vindicated the decision himself by playing a blistering knock of 148 off 71 balls. During his knock, Morgan smacked a world record 17 sixes as star wrist spinner Rashid Khan was taken to the cleaners (0/110, 9 overs). Courtesy of his innings, England posted 397/6 in their allotted 50 overs and went on to win the match by a massive margin of 150 runs
