On this day in 2013: Chris Gayle plays the epic knock of 175 not out

Even if you have forgotten the carnage that took place on this date exactly 8 years ago, the Pune Warriors bowlers who received the mauling on 23rd April 2013 definitely will not. Christopher Henry Gayle wreaked havoc at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and plundered a 66-ball 175* against the Aaron Finch led side.

The Pune Warriors won the toss and inserted the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) side into bat. And, they received a total mauling from the willow of Chris Gayle. Right from the outset, Gayle seemed to be in the mood for destruction. In fact, such was the carnage that Gayle created, that he reached his fifty off just 17 balls.

Even after reaching his half-century, the West Indian batting legend did not seem to be content. Gayle continued to pile up the misery on the opposition. In the 8th over of the RCB innings, Gayle smashed Aaron Finch for 28 runs, as the RCB side crossed the 100-run mark in the 8th over of the innings.

Gayle got to his century with a six off the bowling of Ashok Dinda. He had scored a 30-ball 100, the fastest ton in the history of the IPL. Even after crossing the three-figure mark, Gayle continued to absolutely hammer the opposition. He reached his 150 off the 53rd delivery he faced. In fact, such was the destruction that Gayle caused that day, that the 31 runs that AB de Villiers scored off just 8 deliveries did not hog the limelight.

Gayle finally finished undefeated, scoring 175* off just 66 deliveries, as the Bangalore side piled up a massive total of 263/5 on the board.

In reply, the Pune willow wielders did not even offer a fight. The Pune side was shot out for just 133/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Chris Gayle was successful with the ball as well in this match. The West Indian legend bowled a solitary over and even scalped a couple of wickets.
