One team I wanted to beat every time and even in my dream was RCB: Gautam Gambhir

Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders will take on each other in Match 10 of the Indian Premier League at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Friday. Both teams have an age-old rivalry that is less hyped about. Be it Brendon McCullum thrashing RCB bowlers in the inaugural match of the IPL in 2008 or KKR dismissing the Bengaluru franchise for a paltry 49 runs, that is the lowest total for any team in IPL.

The intensity got further channeled when Gautam Gambhir was announced as the mentor of the KKR team for IPL 2024. It is not an unknown fact that Virat Kohli and Gambhir do not share a friendly bond between them owing to their on-field tussles over the years. Ahead of the impending, a video of Gambhir has resurfaced where the southpaw has emphasized his eagerness to beat RCB and downplayed their stardom while highlighting their lack of achievements.

“One team I wanted to beat every time and even in my dream was RCB. Probably the second most high profile team and flamboyant team with the owner and with the squad – Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and not won anything still thought they won everything,” Gambhir said in a video uploaded by Star Sports.

Gambhir-Kohli rivalry emerges as a key factor of the upcoming game in Bengaluru

The Gambhir-Kohli rivalry dates back to 2013, when during a match between RCB and KKR, Kohli was furious over the former India opener. He was seen charging towards Gambhir as the latter had celebrated vehemently after he got dismissed. The fire got further air when during a Lucknow Super Giants game, the former RCB captain indulged in a heated argument with Naveen Ul Haq and Gambhir juxtaposed himself in the exchange.
