SA vs IND: ODI Series – Top 5 performers

The three-match one-day international series between South Africa and India is done and dusted and it’s the visitors India who clinched the series by a margin of 1-2. KL Rahu led his side to a series victory after getting whitewashed 3-0 (3) in early 2022. There were a few quality players from either side who delivered consistent performances in all three matches and they are featured here in this article.

Let us have a look at the top performers from the ODI series between South Africa and India:

1) Tony de Zorzi

Tony de Zorzi ended the series as the highest run-getter. The left-handed opening batter made such an impact that he was way ahead of the other players. The 26-year-old opener struck 228 runs at an average of 114, which included one century and one half-century. No other batter even managed to cross the 130-run mark in three games. de Zorzi won the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten knock of 119 off 122 that helped his side win the second ODI.

2) B Sai Sudharsan

B Sai Sudharsan was India’s highest run-scorer in the series. The left-handed player amassed 127 runs at an average of 63.50. The 22-year-old smashed an unbeaten 55 off 43 with nine fours in his debut game as he guided his side home in the opening ODI. Sudharsan continued his form as he racked up 62 off 83, which included seven fours and a six, in the second fixture.

3) Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson was the third-highest run-getter in the series. The right-handed player hit 120 runs in two innings at an average of 60.00. After scoring just 12 runs in the second match, Samson played a match and series-winning

knock for his side in the decider fixture in Paarl. The 29-year-old slammed his maiden international century (108 off 114) as he also won the Player of the Match award for the same.

4) Arshdeep Singh

Seam bowler Arshdeep Singh won the Player of the Series award for his ten wickets. The 24-year-old left-arm pace bowler had an average of 9.50 and an economy rate of just 3.51 throughout the series. Arshdeep won the Player of the Match award for his solid spell of 5/37 (10) in the series opener in Johannesburg. He then picked up figures of 1/28 and 4/30 in the second and third games respectively.

5) Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan took the second-most wickets in the series. The 27-year-old seam bowler snared six scalps in three outings at an average of 19.16 and an economy rate of 4.82. The pacer also bowled beautifully in the opening match in Johannesburg where he took figures of 4/27 with three maidens in eight overs. Avesh went wicketless in the second match but then grabbed figures of 2/45 in 7.5 overs in the series decider.
