On this day in 2019: India clean sweep West Indies across all formats
Complete domination – this is what India achieved in the 2019 series against West Indies. The Virat Kohli-led outfit absolutely decimated the West Indian outfit in every single format of the game. And, this decimation was completed on 2nd September 2019.

In all three formats of the game, the West Indies were outplayed, so much so that the hosts ( the series was held in WI) could not even register a single victory against India across all three formats of the game.
India lorded over the West Indian outfit in the T20I series winning it by a margin of 3-0. India won every single match comprehensively. In fact, such was the state of affairs for the hosts that only in 1 out of the 3 T20Is did they even cross the 100-run mark. India proved to be superior in all three departments of the game in the T20Is.
ODIs
While Virat Kohli scored the most runs for India in the T20I series, Navdeep Saini scalped the most number of wickets. The ODI series too portrayed a similar story. The first match resulted in a ‘No Result’ due to rain, and the second and third rubbers went India’s way. While India thrashed the West Indies by 59 runs in the second ODI, they pulverized the hosts by 6 wickets in the third encounter.
In the ODI series, it was batting legend Virat Kohli who showcased his class. In the 2 innings that he played, he plundered 234 runs, including 2 centuries at an average of 234.00. On the bowling front, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped 4 wickets each with the ball in hand.
Tests
And then, came the annihilation in the Test format. In both Tests, India absolutely pounded the West Indian side to submission. While they battered the hosts in the first Test by 318 runs, the visitors decimated them in the second Test match by 257 runs.
Hanuma Vihari emerged as the chief contributor with the bat, scoring 289 runs in the Test series at an average of 96.33, while Jasprit Bumrah was the destroyer-in-chief with the ball. Bumrah picked up 13 wickets in the series at an average of just 9.23. The West Indies was rendered clueless in every format of the game in their own backyard by a spirited Indian side two years ago.
