On this day: Sachin Tendulkar slams a brilliant ton in Adelaide

Sachin Tendulkar is arguably the best player and the most natural batter to have played the game on the 22 yards. He holds several records to his name including most international centuries and runs (in both Tests & One Day Internationals). While the batting legend has scored the most number of tons than the rest, some of them have also turned out to be memorable knocks one of which came at the Adelaide Oval, during India’s tour of Australia in the 2007/08 season.

It seemed that Sachin had saved his best for the last during the Test series down under. While he had scored a superb 241 four years ago at the SCG, the Little Master made a statement scoring a splendid 153 in the fourth & final Test at Adelaide.

After losing the wickets of Irfan Pathan and Rahul Dravid early, Tendulkar started on a cautious note and then proceeded to attack once he was set. He also got support from Virender Sehwag (63). While the lethal Aussie bowlers kept on asking him tough questions, he answered them bravely with his bat on the given day as he successfully breached the three-figure mark in red-ball cricket for the 39th time. The Master Blaster made a tremendous impact on the very first day of the Test match with an enterprising hundred.

Sachin’s 153 helps India post a formidable total

It was also Sachin’s second ton of the series. He had scored 154 in the infamous SCG Test. When it looked like the cricket legend was all set for a big one, he decided to pull Brett Lee for a maximum but unfortunately, the ball went straight into the hands of Brad Hogg at deep fine-leg. The maestro took a long way back to the pavilion and on his way was congratulated by Lee.

Sachin Tendulkar’s 153 powered India to 526 runs in the first innings. The contest ended in a stalemate but the hosts won the four-match series 2-1 having won the first two matches in Melbourne and Sydney respectively. The Master Blaster was adjudged the Man of the Match award for his scintillating knock.
