Own goal: All Hit Wicket dismissals in IPL history

Getting out is surely the most unpleasant feeling for a batsman. There are many ways to get dismissed, but hit-wicket has to be the most unfortunate way for a batsman. More often than not, it is a brain-fade by the batsman when he ends up going deeper in the crease than what he anticipated. The ‘hit wicket club’ comprises a variety of cricketers, about whom we’re going to discuss in this article. Here are the players who got out via hit-wicket in IPL:

Musavir Khote- 2008

Maharashtra pacer Musavir Khote played for Mumbai Indians in the first season of the Indian Premier League. He got out hit-wicket for 8 runs against Sreesanth, who was playing for the Kings XI Punjab. Kings XI ended up winning the match by 66 runs. This was also their first match ever against Mumbai in IPL.

Misbah-ul-Haq- 2008

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first edition of the IPL, till Pakistani players were allowed to play in the cash-rich league. He got out to Sreesanth after scoring 21 runs off just 8 deliveries, with 3 fours and 1 six. Punjab ended up winning the game by 9 wickets and 26 deliveries to spare.

Swapnil Asnodkar- 2009

Rajasthan’s find of the first season, Asnodkar got out hit wicket against CSK all-rounder Albie Morkel for just 10 runs off 8 deliveries. He was batting at number 3, and his dismissal meant that the target of 165 was a little too much for the middle order. CSK won the match comfortably by 38 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja- 2012

Yet another find by the Royals in the first season of the IPL, Jadeja was playing for the Chennai Super Kings in 2012. He was dismissed via hit wicket for 48 runs off 29 balls by Dale Steyn, who was playing for the now-defunct Deccan Chargers. It didn’t matter much, as CSK decimated Deccan by 74 runs. Jadeja was adjudged as the Man of the Match for a 5-wicket haul and 48 crucial runs with the bat.

Saurabh Tiwary- 2012

Batsman Saurabh Tiwary was playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2012. Batting at number 4, Tiwary looked well set at 21 runs before he got dismissed in this unfortunate manner off Harbhajan Singh, who then played for the Mumbai Indians. MI won the match by 5 wickets.

David Warner- 2016

SRH captain David Warner had led his side to a brilliant victory in the finals against RCB in IPL 2016. Warner was batting extremely well, and he got dismissed for 52 runs by Axar Patel via hit wicket. SRH ended up winning the clash comfortably by 7 wickets.

Deepak Hooda- 2016

Hooda was the 2nd player from SRH to join the hit wicket club that season. He got dismissed for 10 runs off the bowling of Aussie bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile. Delhi won the match by 7 wickets, with 11 balls to spare.

Yuvraj Singh- 2016

Yuvraj Singh was the 3rd player from Hyderabad to have been dismissed this way in 2016. He got dismissed for a fluent 39 off 23 deliveries by Mitchell McCleneghan. SRH ended up decimating Mumbai by 85 runs in that fixture.

Sheldon Jackson- 2017

Gujarat wicket-keeper batsman Sheldon Jackson played for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017. Batting at number 3, Jackson was at 10 runs before he got dismissed in this unlucky manner against Washington Sundar, who then played for the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants. RPS defeated KKR by 4 wickets in that match.

Riyan Parag- 2019

Youngster Riyan Parag made his debut in 2019 for the Rajasthan Royals. He played an excellent knock of 47 against Kolkata Knight Riders before Andre Russell got him out hit wicket. His knock and some brilliant hitting from Jofra Archer took Rajasthan home by just 3 wickets in the final over of the match.

Hardik Pandya- 2020

Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya became the first batsman to get out in this fashion in this year’s Indian Premier League. Russell became the 2nd bowler in IPL history to get two hit wicket dismissals along with Sreesanth, dismissing Pandya for 18 runs. It didn’t have much impact though, with MI winning the match by 47 runs.

Rashid Khan – 2020

The Afghan spin wizard Rashid Khan lost his wicket in this unfortunate manner against Chennai Super Kings. The interesting twist here was him getting caught on the same ball. Since the umpire had already given him out hit wicket, it remained that way. Shardul Thakur was the bowler on this occasion.
