Picking Dinesh Karthik only as a finisher doesn’t seem right to me: Vivek Razdan

Team India senior batter Dinesh Karthik has been in impressive touch since he made his comeback to the national squad against South Africa in June. The right-handed batter has played several excellent knocks for the Men in Blue and has given several perfect finishes with the bat.

Meanwhile, former Indian pacer Vivek Razdan has emphasized the fact that ‘blocking’ a spot for Karthik doesn’t seem right. Razdan also stated that the finishing job can also be done by the likes of Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Deepak Hooda, and Hardik Pandya.

You are blocking a spot for Dinesh Karthik: Vivek Razdan

“Picking Dinesh Karthik only as a finisher doesn’t seem quite right to me. You are blocking a spot for Dinesh Karthik. You tell me who among Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli, Deepak Hooda, and Hardik Pandya can’t do that job of a finisher?,” said Vivek Razdan on Fan Code.

It must be noted that Karthik had performed extremely well during the last edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which earned him a place in the Indian squad. Since making his comeback to the national squad, the right-handed batter has played several short but crucial knocks for team India and he also knows that he has the backing of skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid to do what he has been doing.

“As a sportsperson, it is a given, when you are playing at a higher level and when people expect certain things out of you. What is important is making sure that on a given day, what the match situation is, reading the match situation and trying to give your best on that given day,” Karthik had said earlier.

“Finisher’s role is one such that it is hard to be consistent. Every time you get in, you should be able to make an impact that will help the team. It works both ways, the bowlers are clever and they try to force you to hit into the wind as much as possible. That makes it all the more tougher,” he added.
