Prithvi Shaw to play for Northamptonshire in County cricket

India batter Prithvi Shaw is set to play in County cricket for Northamptonshire after taking part in the upcoming Duleep Trophy. The Duleep Trophy will kick start the 2023-24 domestic season on June 28 to July 16.

This will be the 23-year-old’s first stint in the English County Championship. Previously, former India captains Bishan Singh Bedi, Sourav Ganguly, and Anil Kumble have played for Northamptonshire.

As per a report in the Times of India, Shaw will feature in four-day County matches and the 50-over domestic tournament, Royal London One-Day Cup, after the Duleep Trophy.

“Prithvi will be playing in four-day County Championship matches and in the Royal London One-Day Cup (50 overs tournament). Before that, he will play in the Duleep Trophy semi-final (against Central Zone), and if necessary, in the final (July 12-16),” the report read.

During the previous Ranji Trophy season, Shaw hit a magnificent 383-ball 379 innings against Assam, surpassing former cricketer Sanjay Manjerekar’s (377) mark to become Mumbai’s highest run-getter in a single innings. Notably, it was also the second-highest score by a batter in the history of the premier first-class competition.

The Maharashtra-born cricketer has represented his country in five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I. In 42 first-class matches, the 23-year-old has amassed 3679 runs, including 12 centuries and 15 fifties.
