PSL 2022: PCB might consider hosting entire tournament in Lahore
PSL 2022 is all set to get underway in a few days’ time but the tournament will have now have a lot of obstacles to overcome following the rise in Covid-19 cases. The recent days have seen the graph going at a disastrous rate and the alarming signs could well keep the PCB under their toes in making sure the tournament gets completed on time. The players arriving in Pakistan for the tournament will also be eyeing the situation in the venues as there has been an increase of 35 per cent cases in Karachi.
The other venue for the PSL season, Lahore remains a better option at the moment and the Pakistan Cricket Board might consider conducting the whole tournament in just one venue. It will mean that the travel restrictions barrier will be under control while the risk gets reduced as well. The PCB board has already planned ahead for the various situations and a decision might be taken soon on the venue as well.
PCB imposes seven day halt period in the worst-case scenario
The Pakistan Cricket Board had already made arrangements seeing the increasing amount of Covid-19 cases and the franchises have agreed to play the match if each team has 13 players in the squad. Also, there will be a seven-day half period if the situation goes out of control and it will get a lot more doubleheaders into play after the resumption.
It has been noted that the PCB will make sure the tournament gets completed in the scheduled time to accommodate the home series coming up for Pakistan this year. The chairman of PCB, Ramiz Raja has contributed a lot to the development of the system ever since he took over and his actions have been welcomed well by experts.
However, the present situation is going to play a huge role in ensuring the home series against Australia in March takes place. The countries have feared traveling to the nation post the gunfire attack on the Sri Lankan bus a decade ago and Pakistan has come a long way to get international series back on their soil.
