Rashid Khan awestruck by Suryakumar’s breathtaking knock against GT

Suryakumar Yadav put on another batting masterclass in IPL 2023 as he brought up the first hundred of his IPL career vs Gujarat Titans on Friday, May 12 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The Mumbai batter played a scintillating knock of 103 off 49 balls with the help of 11 fours and six sixes to help MI post a massive score of 218/5 in the first innings.

While most bowlers were at the receiving end of the carnage by ‘SKY’, wrist spinner Rashid Khan bowled a magnificent spell of 4/30 and picked up crucial wickets for his team, throughout the innings. Commenting on the sensational batting display by the MI batter, Rashid said that he was unbelievable and it was difficult to bowl to him.

“SKY was unbelievable. It is hard to bowl to him and some of the shots he played were unbelievable. That’s how he plays in this format, and that’s what he’s known for,” said Rashid while speaking to the broadcasters during the innings break.

Suryakumar hit three boundaries against Rashid during his innings and looked impeccable at the crease continuing from where he had left off in the last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 32-year-old walked to the crease in the seventh over of the innings and got involved in a 65-run stand with Vishnu Vinod (30 off 20) off 42 balls.

SKY brought up his second fifty off 18 balls

The swashbuckling batter reached his half-century off 31 balls in the 17th over and shifted gears at the death. He was on 53* (34) at the start of the 18th over by Mohit Sharma and smacked him for 20 runs to move into the 70s. He further scored 14 runs in the 19th over off Mohammed Shami and finally scored the first hundred of his IPL career with a maximum on the last ball of the innings.

Following his knock, he has climbed to the third spot in the list of leading run-scorers of the season with 479 runs to his name from 12 innings.
