Ravi Shastri drops a shocking revelation on selection meetings

Towards the end of Ravi Shastri’s tenure as the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team and the beginning of Rahul Dravid’s era, there were too many controversies that shook Indian cricket. First, Virat Kohli was removed as the leader of the ODI team and later, the legendary batter relinquished his position as the captain of the Test team.

Talking about things that went on during his tenure, Ravi Shastri dropped a massive bombshell stating that there were a lot of people who were actively involved in the team selection meetings and termed the same as against the constitution.

Shastri’s remarks have come after a lot of reports have surfaced recently that former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly reportedly played a huge role in removing Virat Kohli as the captain of the ODI team. Shastri himself admitted that he never attended a selection meeting and wasn’t invited either for the same.

“I have zero first-hand experience. In the seven years I was part of the team, I never went near a selection meeting. I wasn’t invited either. I think, in the long run, yes. As a coach, you spend a lot of time with the boys, it’s important; not in the voting capacity, but at least to hear what’s the selectors are thinking, what’s their train of thought. And then, to decide what the right thing for the side,” Shastri told ESPNcricinfo.

“I have zero idea how it starts, and how it finishes, and who are there in the meeting. From what I gather, there were a lot of people over the last 3-4 years inside the selection meetings, who were not supposed to be there. It’s against the constitution,” Shastri further said.
