The 2020/21 Road Safety World Series saw several iconic cricketers roll back the years with memorable performances in the inaugural edition of the tournament, which featured retired international cricketers. The India Legends triumph in the final against Sri Lanka Legends to lift the inaugural title. It was a roaring success among the fans and had notable performances throughout as we take a look at the leading wicket-takers of the tournament.
Monty Panesar (England), Rangana Herath (Sri Lanka), Sulieman Benn (West Indies) – 8 wickets
Former England spinner Monty Panesar, who represented England in 50 Test matches in his international career, enjoyed his outing in the tournament, scalping eight wickets in just five matches at an economy of 5.15 RPO.
Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Rangana Herath also endured a successful outing in the inaugural edition of the tournament, dismissing eight batters in seven matches going under six runs per over.
One of the tallest crickets ever to play the game, former West Indies cricketer Sulieman Benn registered eight scalps playing for the West Indies Legends in six matches of the competition.
Munaf Patel and Yusuf Pathan (India) – 9 wickets
The solitary pace bowler on the list, former Indian quick Munaf Patel was the spearhead of the India Legends team with his pinpoint accuracy, reminiscent of his playing days. The right-arm medium pacer grabbed nine wickets in the journey through to the final.
Yusuf Pathan, in his playing career, was revered as one of the hardest strikers of the cricketing ball. But the former Indian cricketer was India’s most lethal option with the ball, scalping nine wickets in just matches, including a match-turning double strike in the final against the Sri Lanka Legends.
Tillakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka) – 12 wickets
One of the finest all-rounders, Tillakarantbe Dilshan finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 12 scalps. The explosive former Sri Lankan opener was awarded the player of the tournament for his exception all-round showing but failed at the final hurdle while leading the Sri Lankan team.
