Rohit Sharma keen on WTC final preparations amidst upcoming IPL

India’s World Test Championship Final berth was sealed after New Zealand’s thrilling victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test. India’s fourth and final Test against Australia culminated in a draw. New Zealand’s victory meant that both sides will tussle for the WTC trophy at The Oval later this year.

Following the fourth Test match, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma informed that the team management will be working to get the Indian players on the flight to England for the WTC final as soon as they are done with their IPL duties. India will take on Australia in the WTC final commencing on the 7th of June later this year.

But before that, the majority of the Indian Test team members will be participating in IPL. The tournament begins on March 31, and will conclude with the final on 28th May. However, Rohit Sharma has revealed that several members of the India Test team will be travelling to England as six IPL teams will be knocked out of the tournament by May 21st.

“By May 21st, six teams will be out of IPL so we will try to get those players early to UK,” Rohit said in the presser.

Meanwhile, the Indian skipper also praised the efforts of his teammates for their series victory. The captain highlighted their fighting victory in the Delhi Test from a perilous position.

“I think the Delhi Test match was something I’m really proud of because we were very much behind the game and to comeback from the situation that we did shows a lot of character and a lot of fight,” said Rohit.
