RR vs CSK Review – Rajasthan batters help them trounce Chennai 2-0

The Indian Premier League delivered another mouth-watering encounter on Thursday, April 27 as Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings got head-to-head against each other at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bat first on their home ground.

The decision proved to be correct as openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal took on CSK’s bowling right from the word go and put on an 86-run partnership off 50 balls for the first wicket. After Buttler’s (27 off 21) dismissal, Jaiswal (77 off 43) continued to find boundaries and took the innings forward. A brilliant finish from Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15) and Devdutt Padikkal (27* off 13) helped RR reach a total of 202/5 in the first innings.

In reply, CSK’s innings couldn’t get going as opener Devon Conway struggled in the middle and could only score 8 off 16 balls. Ruturaj Gaikwad looked in fine touch, however, his innings was cut short by Adam Zampa in the 10th over. Ravichandran Ashwin got the prized scalp of Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu in the 11th over to bring CSK down on their knees.

Shivam Dube tried his best to keep his side in the hunt with his half-century but could only take them to 170/6 in the second innings as RR won the match by 32 runs and ended CSKs’ three-match winning streak.

Best Performers of the Match

Yashasvi Jaiswal

The 21-year-old played a blistering knock of 77 off 43 balls with the help of eight fours and four sixes in his innings. Jaiswal outscored his opening partner Jos Buttler right from the beginning and kept CSK’s bowlers under pressure till he was at the crease.

Shivam Dube

The southpaw continued his brilliant form in the ongoing season and brought up his third consecutive half-century. Dube played a valiant knock of 52 off 33 with the help of two fours and four sixes in his innings but couldn’t save his team from a defeat.

Adam Zampa

The wrist-spinner was brought into the side in place of Trent Boult and didn’t disappoint the management as he ended up picking 3/22 in three overs to break the back of CSK’s batting. Zampa dismissed Gaikwad, Conway and Moeen Ali to set up a 32-run victory for his side.
