Sachin Tendulkar backs Rohit-Rahul ahead of the World Cup

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar achieved his lifelong dream of lifting the World Cup trophy for his nation in 2011. The cricketer has often spoken about the special moment and the efforts taken to realise the aim. With the T20 World Cup 2022 and ODI World Cup 2023 around the corner, Tendulkar has backed the pair of Rohit Sharma-Rahul Dravid to repeat the golden feat.

“In the month of April this year, we’ll complete 11 years (of World Cup win). That’s a long wait. Everyone including me would love to see that trophy in BCCI’s cabinet. This is one trophy that all the cricketers play for. It doesn’t get any bigger than that… be it a shorter or longer format. World Cup is something special and that’s what I feel,” Tendulkar said while speaking to Boria Majumdar on his YouTube show ‘Backstage with Boria’.

Tendulkar went on to heap praise on India’s current head coach Rahul Dravid and the team’s new captain Rohit Sharma. The batting legend backed the fantastic pair to take this team to new heights. There will be ups and downs along the way but the Master Blaster feels the duo knows enough about them.

“Rohit & Rahul is a fantastic pair. I know that guys would give their best shot and prepare to the best of their ability. You have so many people backing you. It’s all about having that support at the right time. Of course, everyone has played enough cricket. Rahul has played enough cricket to understand there are gonna be ups and downs along the way. Not to lose hope is the only thing. Keep trying and we will keep moving forward,” he added.

Rohit Sharma has taken over the reins from Virat Kohli in both ODIs and T20Is. His first major shot at winning an ICC trophy will come later this year in Australia in the form of the T20 World Cup. The year 2023 will test Rohit’s mettle as an ODI captain in cricket’s most respected tournament.

The Indian team will be next seen in the action at home. They will be facing off against the West Indies in a 3-match ODI series followed by a 3-match T20I series. The tour kicks off on 6th February, Sunday in Ahmedabad.
