Sachin Tendulkar makes this diwali special for children in North-East India

The frenzy of the Indian Premier League has provided a timely relief from the tumultuous days of the coronavirus pandemic. While the pandemic is still at large, on-field cricket has helped us cope with it. Sachin Tendulkar, who has keenly followed the IPL action, has sustained his tremendous efforts to bring up smiles on the faces of children who are fighting a battle to survive.

Located in a tribal-populated area at a junction of three North-Eastern states, Assam, Mizoram and Tripura, Makunda Hospital has been serving since the last 70 years. The hospital specialises in pediatric services. Tendulkar, via his foundation, will be donating multiple equipments for the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) and NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) of Makunda hospital. 2000 to 2200 babies are estimated to be benefitted from this equipment on a yearly basis.

Makunda Hospital

Dr Vijay Anand Isamael, Paediatric Surgeon, Makunda Hospital said “Our endeavour is to provide high quality medical care at costs that are affordable to the people of North-East India irrespective of caste, religion, race or sex. The grant from the Sachin Tendulkar Foundation with support from Ekam Foundation is a great blessing and it will help us to provide better services at low costs to the poor people who come in large numbers in this area.”

Striving to keep the future of the nation healthy, Tendulkar has contributed to several initiatives focussing on children. Via his foundation, the Master Blaster has covered a gamut of social issues. His financial support to SRCC children’s hospital and the Kutir program of Parivaar foundation aims at providing high-quality healthcare to those in need but do not have the necessary funds to afford it. Supporting Makunda Hospital is another step in this fulfilling this mission.

Like his on-field ventures over the years, Tendulkar is making another heartfelt and a significant contribution to India’s cause. This Diwali Tendulkar has brought smiles to the faces of underprivileged children.
