Shahid Afridi answers a fan’s question when asked about Virat Kohli’s future

Virat Kohli has been struggling with his form for almost three years. The slump in form has been to such an extent that Kohli has been unable to convert his good starts into bigger knocks and also walked back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers on a few occasions. He would next be seen in action against arch-rivals Pakistan during India’s opening clash in Dubai on Sunday, August 28.

Meanwhile, former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi has made an honest statement about the batting megastar’s future in international cricket. Afridi neither encouraged the struggling cricketer nor criticized his poor form, but made it clear that the 33-year-old must himself take the initiative of being on the selectors’ radar by making his bat do the talking.

Shahid Afridi comments on Virat Kohli’s form

It so happened that Shahid Afridi was indulged in a Q&A session with the passionate cricket fans on Twitter and it was during one such interaction a fan came forward and asked him, “What about Virat’s future” to which the veteran all-rounder replied saying, “It’s in his own hands.”

In the two T20Is that Kohli featured in against England, he scored only 12 runs. After the UK tour, the batting icon has been on a break from the game having missed the limited-overs series against the West Indies and then taking an extended break from the ongoing Zimbabwe series.

All eyes will be on Virat Kohli when he returns to the field next weekend and he would be raring to take on the lethal Pakistani bowling line-up. It is to be noted that the batting megastar has a very good record against Pakistan in Asia Cup as well as T20Is. He was India’s ‘Chasemaster’ in the 2012 and 2016 editions of the continental tournament against the arch-rivals.

Moreover, Kohli has scored back-to-back half-centuries against Pakistan in the last two T20I meetings- T20 World Cups 2016 and 2021 and now would be eyeing a bigger knock come August 28.
