SL vs IND: 1st T20I – Talking points from India’s thumping victory over Sri Lanka

India registered a comfortable 38-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20Is in Colombo on Sunday to gain a lead in the three-match series. Having won the toss, Sri Lanka put in India and restricted them to 164/5.

During the chase, the hosts were 90/3 at one stage, before they underwent a collapse and were wrapped up for just 126. The two teams will now meet in the next T20I on Tuesday at the same venue.

Suryakumar Yadav’s sizzling half-century

After a Player of the Series performance in the ODIs, Suryakumar Yadav went all guns blazing in the opening game of the T20I series, as he smacked a 34-ball 50, which included five fours and two sixes. He was looking aggressive and had hit a six, but departed on the immediately following delivery as he holed out to long-off. After an impressive start, Yadav would want to continue his rich vein of form.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s four-wicket haul

Bhuvneshwar Kumar shone with a brilliant spell as he bagged four wickets for merely 22 runs in the 3.3 overs he bowled. He barged inside and cleaned up the tail after getting Avishka Fernando caught by Sanju Samson. He picked three scalps, those of Chamika Karunratne, Isuru Udana and Dushmanatha Chameera in the death to seal the victory for India.

Prithvi Shaw’s debut duck

For all the build-up and hype around Prithvi Shaw making his T20 international debut, the youngster was caught off a ripper of a delivery, which was the opening delivery of the game after India was put in to bat. Dushmantha Chameera delivered a fullish outswinger, enticing Shaw for the drive, although he could only edge it faintly behind to the wicketkeeper to depart for a golden duck.
